The good folks in Canary Wharf and Brussels continue to keep us busy through a mixture of new requirements and random treatment of client firms. Clients continue to keep us busy with new ideas they want to implement, if only they can leap over those regulatory hurdles.
With business flourishing, a couple of changes have come to pass in recent months. The first is our taking a new Office here in Maidstone. It comes complete with room for the additional bodies we will hire just as soon as I figure out a formula for sharing and delegating work that does not cause output to deteriorate to the standards typical of the compliance industry.
You will now find us at The Old Library, St Faiths Street, Maidstone ME14 1LH.
The second change you may have noticed in the past month or so is in our branding. We had hitherto traded as 'Waterside Gate Consulting', a name imaginatively taken from the development where I live, being on the river here in Kent's county town.
We learned just over a month ago of a certain firm of financial services lawyers restructuring and adopting the name 'Waterside'. Enquiries showed that this was not in fact 'flattery' but a move made in good faith and based on them also having a location on a river. Indeed, it seems lots of people live or trade by rivers as there are currently 300 entities on the register with the name 'Waterside'. We could hardly claim exclusivity.
More concerning perhaps were linkedin contacts with whom I regularly engage telling me that it had never registered with them that I was trading under any name other than my own. Then there was the acquaintance who believed I was in the business of making gates, perhaps for properties next to rivers.
So we have a new brand: Purle Consulting. The logo may not break new boundaries in the field of design (£30 from a young man in Karachi) but there is a nice new domain name complete with new email and website addresses: -
Having wanted to avoid confusing 'the other side' until certain projects moved closer to completion, we held off filing resolutions with Companies House. These however were filed Friday, meaning the names Purle Consulting Services Limited and Purle Consulting Associates Limited will be with us shortly.
Of course, a rebrand is always a good time to sneak through a rate rise. So new engagements will attract a revised day rate of £700 (or the current hourly rate of £130). Services rendered to asset managers by Purle Consulting Associates Limited will continue attract VAT where the client is in the UK or EEA.
